Welcome to On the Bubble, our newest monthly feature dedicated to giving you a sneak peek into everything we’ve got planned for the month ahead. February is slammed packed with everything from supercross, WORCS, spring national warm-up races, trade shows, and much, much more, and we’ve got it all covered.
February begins the real countdown to the spring nationals and we’ve got our plate full with tons of ideas to keep everyone informed as to what’s going on in the world of amateur motocross leading up to Lake Whitney and Oak Hill. We’ve spoken extensively with both the McWilliams and the Oldenburg families and can attest that this will be one of the biggest years both events have seen in quite some time. Whitney has been boasting about track changes, and while we have yet to make it out to see them for ourselves, we spoke with Yamaha’s Matt Bisceglia a few weeks ago while on a photo shoot in Texas and he let us in on all the details. We’re going to keep it a secret for now, but be sure to check back in the middle of this month as Ryan King will be bringing us video coverage of the Whitney and Oak Hill warm-up races.
We will be making another trip out west this week where we will spend 12 days putting the finishing touches on our feature film, EPIC. The film is set to release in April and if you think our online videos are cool, remember that they are only a small portion of what we’ve been spending our lives doing over the last two years. This film will be like no other motocross film you have ever seen and is guaranteed to set the action sports world on fire. We will also be releasing a book with the DVD, which will encompass behind the scenes photos from our life on the road making EPIC. Photo shoots from the most pristine tracks around the country have taken place at every film shoot and there are plenty of stories to share.
Our plan is to hook up with some of the fastest amateur and pro talent in the world and you can bet we will be uploading sneak peeks into the video, so stay tuned in.
While our trip to Cali will mainly be focused on wrapping up the movie, we will also be attending both Anaheim III and San Diego Supercrosses to catch up with West Coast’s most recent arrivals. PJ Larsen recently moved into 8th place in the points chase, passing previous rookie points leader Ben Evans, who still remains in an impressive 10th. Hats off to Cole Seely, as well. This kid has improved each and every week and finally set it off in San Francisco with a third in his heat race and an 11th overall. With a fraction of the support given to the factory guys, Cole has managed to impress everyone with his composure this season.
February also means time for the Indy Trade Show. Ryne Swanberg will be reporting in live from Indy and will be updating everyone back home with photo galleries and interviews from the biggest tradeshow in the motorcycle industry. All the big wigs will be there showcasing their ‘09 product lines, and there is no doubt we’ll get a look into future projects from some of the biggest in the business.
Believe it or not, but February also kicks off the first set of Loretta Lynn’s Area Qualifiers. The Southeast holds the first qualifier in Reddick, Florida at MX Marion County, while the South Central qualifier is at one of the sickest tracks in the country, Cooperland. Our own Kaelyn Sheedy will hopefully be trackside in Reddick, while we will be listing the services of Bob at www.mxdirtonline.com to lend us a hand at Cooperland.
It’s going to be a wild month, but an EPIC one nonetheless. A huge thanks to everyone for all the support. We are going bigger than ever this year and we couldn’t do it without your undying support.
