WMR KTM/Nihilo Concepts Monster Energy Cup Race Report

October 15th 2011–  Las Vegas, NV

What an awesome weekend for WMR/ Nihilo Concepts/ Red Bull KTM at the Monster Energy Cup in Las Vegas.

A few weeks ago Red Bull contacted WMR about building a KTM Super Mini for their rider Cooper Webb, one of the fastest amateur racers in the world. The idea was to build a bike for the inaugural Monster Energy Cup so Webb could race for the last time on a Super Mini against a full gate of the fastest Super Mini riders in the world. After this race Webb will be moving to the big bikes full time.

With only a few weeks to get the bike built and tested WMR went to work with the help of KTM to build a one-off custom modified KTM 105 for the race. WMR built the Super Mini race motor and matched it to a custom FMF exhaust. Webb said the bike felt like a 125. With orange powder coated frame and custom Decal-Works graphics the bike was taking shape.

Custom Billet parts from Nihilo Concepts were added such as:

    · Nihilo Concepts oversized water pump

    · Nihilo Concepts water pump gear

    · Nihilo Concepts billet brake pedal

    · Nihilo Concepts intake spacer

    · Nihilo Concepts big bike front brake kit

    · Nihilo Concepts big bike front # plate/front fender kit

    · Nihilo Concepts frame grip tape

    · Nihilo Concepts case saver

    · Nihilo Concepts custom engraved ignition cover

    · Nihilo Concepts custom engraved clutch cover

    · Nihilo Concepts safety pet cock

Cooper rode the Red Bull /WMR / KTM Super mini for the first time a week before the event at a private test track in FL. Cooper loved the power of the WMR modified Super Mini and knew immediately that he could be competitive against riders like Monster Energy’s own Adam Cianciarulo at the monster Energy Cup.

The next time Webb rode the new bike was at the Hart and Huntington test track in Las Vegas the day before the race. Even though he only had a few rides on the new KTM he felt that he could still win.

On the night of the race Webb showed his talent and ability going 2-2 only seconds behind Cianciarulo and finishing 2nd for the night. “The track was pretty one line I was matching his speed but just couldn’t get around Adam. I feel good about my results and appreciate the opportunity Red Bull gave me to race one of the greatest events ever, the Monster Energy Cup for my last time on the Mini Bike. I’m really looking forward to moving up to the big bikes and riding for Red Bull” said Webb.
