Wow with a damn exclamation mark, that’s all that I can lead off with.
Not only am I floored at the amount of entries and VERY GOOD ENTRIES, but so is our entire team, the entire team at Yamaha, and so are the few guest judges we had come in a help us with some tiebreakers. Based on our previous iterations of the Vurbmoto Edit Contest, we NEVER expected this level of talent to take a part of this, and it’s humbling to say the least. I have to admit, the skill level has gone x100 over the past decade, and while there’s only one physical winner of the storytelling portion of this contest, our entire team is hyped to have added an entire catalog of badass editors to our rolodex.
Side note: As we inputed the names and entries into the judging spreadsheet, we were denoting the people we wanted to make sure we kept their contact no matter the results of this mission. And no joke, we just got to the point that it was silly to take the time to make any extra note, because literally every single person that entered this thing is talented enough to be on a call list for us.
That being said, congratulations to you all. Taking the time and effort to do all of this is impressive enough, and then to do such an amazing job is just the cherry on top. I’ve said multiple times on the podcast. “Winning is cool and all, but getting noticed is the true objective of this contest.” And, point blank, you have ALL been noticed. Whether it’s us, Yamaha, Motosport, Winners Take Y’all, or one of the thousands of companies in motorsports that need multimedia — and specifically editing — help, we now have a list of the most talented people we never knew existed. Point is, I’m hoping every single one of you take a win out of this. It seriously could mean a full-time job of your dreams, regardless of your finish.
Further, this was the hardest thing I’ve done in a long time. As I mentioned, the previous times there were a few standouts and it was pretty easy to slim down to the winners. This time around, we had built out a small judging sheet with a few categories and watched every single entry. We then realized it was too damn close, and we needed to break it down even further, and so we did it again. And then, WE DID IT AGAIN! Ten judges on the first round, eight on the second, and six on the final, as we added more specific categories each time. It was truly the only fair way to break this down. The winner came from a mix of everything as you can see below, and it’s evident each category played huge role in determining the thrown here in the Storytelling Category of the Vurbmoto Yamaha Editing Contest.
For clarity, our panel of judges consisted of many full-time professionals, including editors, colorists, story producers, post-pro sound, and camera ops. This led us to a wide array of scores, and ultimately made this even more exciting.
We’ll be announcing the Banger Category tomorrow afternoon. This will do for today!
So here we go, ladies and gentlemen!
Awesome job to everyone! So bummed to not even be in the hunt here, but it was stacked. Brought that inner kid out of me again waiting to see your guy’s selections. Thanks Vurb once again for the excitement!
