Here are three instant reactions from Southwick. Don’t be expecting a full fledge feature, its called instant reactions for a reason.
250 Class Wide Open
Oh, boy. The 250 Class is wide the f*** open. Hunter Lawrence, coming off a second moto DNF at RedBud, was riding at less than 100% but was putting in a valiant effort in the first moto and then his bike blew up with just two laps remaining while he was running fourth.
Tom Vialle won the overall after holding off a rabid RJ Hampshire in the second moto. It’s his first overall in the U.S. Jo Shimoda won the second moto for his first moto win of the season.
The 250 Class is anyone’s as Haiden Deegan holds a 5 point lead over Lawrence, but look how close the top five are:
Rider | Points | Difference |
1 Haiden Deegan | 218 | – |
2 Hunter Lawrence | 213 | -5 |
3 RJ Hampshire | 205 | -13 |
4 Jo Shimoda | 198 | -20 |
5 Justin Cooper | 196 | -22 |
Jett Lawrence Is Really Good
Yeah. Perfect season talk is heating up. Another 1-1 day for Jett and now he’s a perfect 12 for 12 and honestly, it doesn’t even look like he’s trying. Chase Sexton caught up to him in the first moto and Jett was like yeah, not today and cruised to another win. Ditto for moto 2. Chase caught up, Jett turned it up and was gone. Oh, and he led every lap AGAIN today. Insane.
The Rippah
Southwick marked Jimmy Decotis’ first AMA Pro Motocross event since 2018, and first AMA event since 2010. Now, fully healthy, the Rippah was back and qualified FIRST overall. Yeah, it was a clean track but whatever. Jimmy then went out and put together a 12-17 for 15th overall. Amazing story.
