Here are 5 things we learned from Monday at Gatorback.
Queen of the Sand
Lotte Van Drunen has come across the pond to race against the best in WMX America has to offer. Lotte comes from the Netherlands and is the 2023 EMXW champion at only 16 years old. Starting the race around fourth position, Van Drunen quickly made her way to the front of the pack and set sail and was able to take home the WMX supercross title. Lotte also raced Schoolboy 2 and 250 B and qualified for the main in the Schoolboy 2 in a stacked class. I’m excited to see her on the MX track later this week.
Tristan Prueitt
Domination. That is the only word that can describe how this kids week has gone. Prueitt took home like four titles today. This kid could just not stop winning today. The rider from Oregon won three titles in the 85 class and also took home the Mini SR 1 title. Prueitt has one more class to race on the SX track where he could wrap up his fifth win this week.
Krystian Janik
Krystian seemed to be a little off his game at the beginning of the week during heat races, but that was not the case today and showed why he is one the best in his class. The Team Green rider started the day off with a third in the 250 Pro Sport class. He later backed that up with a win in 250 A. Krystian has one Open Pro Sport race left on the SX track and if he rides like he has, he will find himself in the title hunt.
Beckham Smith
Last night I’m sitting back at the house with my buddy, working on some writing and I asked GC “Hey, who’s someone I need to watch for tomorrow?” He instantly said “Beckham Smith”. I’d heard of the name but had never got to see him ride in person. Well, today I got to see what GC was talking about. Smith took him a title in the 50cc Limited (7-8) and 65cc (7-9) Limited. The 9-year-old Orange Brigade rider is going for two more titles in SX and will look to take home a few in MX.
Landon Gibson
Gibson’s move from little bikes to big bikes did not slow this guy down at all. Gibson has been in the battle for the win in each of his classes and was able to secure a title in 250B Limited. Landon is looking super comfy on the 250 and the rest of the B class should be nervous. His starts have been super consistent which is super important on the tight SX track. If he can get a few good starts, I think he’ll be in the hunt for another title.
