On Thursday, Suzuki sent out a press release announcing they have “concluded its partnership with Joe Gibbs Racing.”
Rumors over the last couple days have suggested that the team, which began racing in 2008, would be done after they failed to come to terms with Suzuki and were unable to find a title sponsor. Nothing is official, as the team is still trying to find a solution.
JGR did send out a thank you video on social media, which is not a good sign:
If this is the end for the team it would be another huge blow to the industry, as GEICO Honda announced earlier this year it was closing shop.
JGRMX began racing in 2008 and was founded by the Gibbs family, which owns and operates a top-flight NASCAR outfit. Of course, Joe Gibbs was a NFL Super Bowl winning coach with the Washington Redskins. His son, Coy, ran the MX outfit.
The team housed a number of stars over the years, including James Stewart, Justin Barcia and more.
Alex Martin, Joey Savatgy and Fredrik Noren raced for the team in 2020.
Well, this is a bummer.
