When KTM announced that Ryan Dungey was coming out of retirement, the original deal had the former champ pegged to race just the opening two rounds of the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship.
Call me a skeptic if you must, but I never envisioned Dungey JUST racing the opening two rounds. Why would he do ALL this work, just to race the opening two rounds? Hell, if he was wanting to just race a couple rounds this year, why wouldn’t one be at his home track of Spring Creek?
Well, turns out my, along with most of yours, I’m sure, skepticism was pretty spot on.
The Golden Rod was on the PulpMX Show last night and basically confirmed he will probably race all 12 rounds of the championship with Red Bull KTM.
“It was not like the team came to me,” Dungey said. “In all honesty, I went to them and explored the idea. The first thing in my head was A) maybe let’s do four or five races. That would be kind of cool. Then I got thinking about it, racing is a sport, especially this sport, unless you’re all in, it’s hard. Of course we are going to do the first two. If things go good we’ll wanna continue that down the road.”
“In all honesty I want to go out and compete for wins,” he continued. “That is my goal, it is a tall order but I think the biggest thing for me is putting in the time.”
Dungey hasn’t raced since 2017 in Las Vegas where he clinched his fourth Monster Energy AMA Supercross title.
