I’m not sure what kind of stuff happens inside of the mind of a champion like Cooper Webb, but lately he’s doing a great job of not making me guess.
After pulling the holeshot, leading every lap, tying up the standings, and winning his 25th 450SX Main Event of his career he was off to the press conference. Our buddy Jaime Guida from Vital MX asked Coop if he was playing mind games by being the only rider to not wear a jacket on the parade lap. To which Webb responded:
“Yeah, you just gotta jacket off sometimes.”
It was a smooth innuendo, we’ll give him that, but we’re calling him out on it. This comment comes two weeks after referring to his arms being as hard as morning wood, live on Peacock. Then of course he had the butt patch to match.
It seems as though A LOT of people are into it, so Coop is just running with it at this point. When you get to a certain age, you start to say things that are on your mind and you stop caring so much what people say. Coop has always been that way. I remember when he was a 12-year-old kid hanging around the Vurbmoto tent at the amateur nationals, he just always said and did whatever he wanted. He even was quick to point out the music I was listening to and judge me for it. Good times.
Webb only needs two more wins to tie Bob Hannah, who at one point held the all-time win record. Hannah held the record until Rick Johnson passed him in 1989. Webb sits tenth on the list for the time being, but could tie or pass Hannah before the season is over.
Four rounds remain and Webb is now sharing the red plate with Jett Lawrence, who once held a 21-point gap a month ago after Indianapolis.
We’re not sure how the rest of the season is going to play out, but one thing that we do know is that Webb will continue to be unhinged on the podium. We’re not sure how much freakier he’s going to get, but for everyone’s sake, lets hope that he keeps his jacket ON from now on.
