Frosday: The Hot Streak In 1992

June 14-16 is QUICKLY approaching! In fact as of today, WE are a month away from the Vurbapalooza stop of our Vurbmoto Shred Tour, featuring Jeff Emig’s Fro400 event. You can learn more information about the event here AND PRE-REGISTER HERE. It’s going to be a great time at a beautiful facility.

Today I wanted to focus on my buddy Fro and I’m happy to have you all here for the first ever edition of Frosday! I’m going to take a look at a race from Emig’s career and go down memory lane. I found Moto 2 from Washougal in 1992 and I thought that this would be a perfect place to start! Our guy Emig was absolutely shredding here 32 years ago.

Washougal 1992

First off, sorry that I can’t embed this footage, it must be some sort of VHS, to digital, to streaming error. Either way, click that link and follow along.

Here is RedBud 1992 where the streak of greatness started that season, truly a milestone win in Emig’s career.

Heading into Washougal 1992, which was round seven of 11 total rounds in 1992, Jeff Emig had arrived. After starting the season with a sixth overall at Gatorback and following that up with a seventh at Southwick, and an 11th at High Point, Emig would reach a pivotal moment in his career. He would finish 2nd overall at Hangtown, but then win his first overall of his career at RedBud on July 5th.

The following weekend the final round of Supercross was scheduled at the now infamous LA Coliseum race where Damon Bradshaw and Jeff Stanton would go for the title. Emig finished 6th in the 250 class that night. Two weeks later was Kenworthys, which resulted in another first overall and by the time Emig rolled into Washougal a week later, he was on a hot streak.

He took a 1-1 finish on the day and in the second moto put on an absolute clinic by charging from behind and chasing down the leader Jeremy McGrath for the win.

Emig would close out the season winning six out of the last eight overall wins on the season and win his first professional championship. When you look back at these 1992 races you can see how much confidence that Emig is riding with later in the season. That RedBud win put Emig on another level that season and things just started clicking. This would be the first 125MX Championship for Yamaha since Broc Glover in 1979.

Frosday is awesome. Let’s do more of these, yeah?
