VurbWes is at press day. Yep, he ventured over to Washougal after PIR to talk to some folks about the weekend.
He caught up with Chance Hymas to talk about the first turn crash and if he will even be able to race this weekend.
“I [knew] immediately,” said Hymas when asked about the first turn at Spring Creek last Saturday. “I went over that little start hill and was like, this doesn’t feel good. I started falling and put my foot down and wrong place wrong time and ran the foot over.”
When asked about if he’ll be able to race this weekend, Hymas said:
“If I can’t go out there and give it my 100%, I’m not going to do it.”
Of course, there is a bit more to this story, as after the race Haiden Deegan put the blame on Hymas.
“Chance like tried to cut down on the start, took me out.”
When asked about the first turn crash, Hymas said:
“It’s not like my intention was to go and take out 40 dudes in the first corner and take myself out. First corner was definitely deep and just came in and I was trying to get the angle for the corner right but it was just super muddy and my bike kept going straight and my body was falling off the side and I put out my foot to catch myself.”
Hymas is riding press day at Washougal today, so we’ll see if he can give it a go tomorrow.
