RJ Hampshire throws straight heat.

Last week he was given the opportunity to throw out the first pitch as his hometown Tampa Bay Rays hosted the Houston Astros on Wednesday night.

The Rays lost, but had they put RJ on the mound, we may have had a different outcome. RJ went full RJ in the release and got a little carried away on the pitch.

Despite the ball getting away from him, I know a heater when I see one. That ball was a four seam fastball right up the middle. From here it looked like it clocked in well over 90 MPH.

By the time it hit the ground, this was a steaming hot grounder that would have been a problem for those sitting in the front row had the fence and net not been there.

I went right to the source to get to the bottom of everything, you know, because I’m a top shelf journalist and stuff.

Hampshire said that he was originally going to throw the ball to Raymond, Tampa Bay’s beloved mascot. However, that plan changed and then the pressure got to him immediately.

“I need a second chance,” the 250SX East Region Champion said. “They set me up, got into my head big time, and didn’t even let me warm up. I got on that mound and felt like I was standing on a mountain!”

We shared this news in the group chat with our buddy, and agent to the MLB stars, Chris Betts, who had this to offer.

“NOOOOOOO RJ!”

I’m still working on Betts signing Hampshire to his agency, but at the moment all talks have slowed down. I’m still trying to lock down both Betts and Hampshire to do a baseball podcast in the offseason. Stay tuned for that. If it doesn’t happen then you can blame Betts for being too busy.

Either way, I’m here for the Hampshire X MLB crossover that keeps happening. Last year he was featured on the MLB Network ahead of the East Rutherford SX.

I’m hoping that the next crossover occurs when my Cincinnati Reds see the potential and sign him to a deal. We could use a dog like Hampshire in the bullpen as we make a late season run for the playoffs. Our ace Hunter Greene just was put on the disabled list, so why not?
