Following a whirlwind rookie season in 2024, Evan Ferry was looking to start anew in 2025. He found a solid ride this off-season with Phoenix Honda and entered Anaheim 1 with high expectations following a strange rookie season which started with Factory Triumph and ended with WildCat Racing.
At the season opener in Anaheim on Saturday, which would mark just his second Monster Energy Supercross race, Ferry qualified 20th and was running in a transfer position before going down toward the end of the race.
Once the race was over, Ferry was helped off the track by the Alpinestars medical crew with his right leg propped up. Following the race, Ferry and Phoenix Honda confirmed that he sustained a torn Achilles, effectively ending his Supercross season early for a second consecutive season.
The team posted the following on Instagram: “Evan Ferry started the evening well, staying in the top five for most of the heat race. However, in the penultimate lap upon a jump landing he tore his Achilles tendon, ending his night. The team will monitor Evan’s recovery to determine return date.”
Ferry posted to his Instagram was well: “At a loss for words right now. Did absolutely everything I could the months leading up to Anaheim. Had an awesome heat race going in qualifying position battling with some gnarly dudes, and unfortunately my Achilles gave out. No idea how long I’ll be out but I will be back! Keep yall updated!🫡 just want to give a huge thanks to the whole entire @phxracinghonda team for believing in me! Thanks team❤️”
This is the second 250 rider to sustain an Achilles injury in a matter of weeks, as Ferry’s former Triumph teammate Jalek Swoll sustained the same injury prior to the season opener.
Eli Tomac sustained an Achilles injury in May of 2023 and returned to racing the following January at Anaheim 1.
