Monster Energy/Star Racing Yamaha’s Eli Tomac says he wants to return for the last few rounds of Monster Energy AMA Supercross after sustaining a broken fibula in qualifying at round 5 of the championship in Tampa.
In a recent interview with Swap Moto Live, Tomac said his recovery time is expected to be six weeks and that he wants to return before the end of the season.
“I have a realistic chance at coming back for the last few Supercross [rounds] if things go the way I think they will go,” he said in the interview. “I want to get more gates drops in before motocross.”
In the interview, Tomac said he initially thought it was a twisted ankle and that he would tough it out for the evening. And he did that, riding in pain to a17th place finish.
After further evaluation following the race, it was discovered that he had a broken fibula and he underwent surgery last week in Vail, CO.
“I have a small plate in my leg now… I didn’t even know it was broken until Tuesday afternoon.”
