After two injury riddled 450 seasons, Aaron Plessinger has enjoyed a breakout 2021 campaign. Plessinger finished fifth in Monster Energy Supercross, which included his first career 450 podium at Daytona.
He’s carried that over into Lucas Oil Pro Motocross, landing on the overall podium twice through four rounds, and currently sits third in points behind teammate Dylan Ferrandis and Ken Roczen.
Plessinger has spent his entire career with Yamaha, turning pro in 2015 and capturing two 250 titles with the brand (2018 250SX West Region and 250 Pro Motocross), but he has been linked to the Red Bull KTM team for next year. Plessinger could also return to his Monster Energy/Star Racing Yamaha team. At this point, it’s all up in the air.
After his podium at RedBud over the weekend, Plessinger was asked how his contract situation has affected him day to day while also having to race at a high level.
“I don’t really let it affect me,” he said. “The way I think of it is people want me for what I have been doing. So, if I bring it to race day and I let it affect that stuff, it’s not going to be good. It’s in the back of my mind, for sure, but as far as letting it affect what I do day to day, it doesn’t. I just let it play out how it’s going to play out. I’m not really sure. I wish I could say more on it. It’s a waiting game and I’m just in the middle. I haven’t heard too much. Just been trying to mind my own and not really pay attention to it too much. Just put the work in when I need to.”
