The opening round of the World Supercross Championship took place over the weekend in Wales for the British GP and it was a rough one for MDK Motorsports teammates Chad Reed and Josh Grant, who were both injured in heat race crashes apparently caused by mechanicals.
Chad’s wife, Ellie, posted on Instagram that Chad sustained a dislocated right shoulder, broken left hand, and broken ribs in his crash.
Chad later posted on Instagram saying that a fuel pump going out caused the crash.
“I’ve loved the past 12 or so weeks getting to challenge myself. It brought realization to just how awesome Supercross as a sport is! Also has made me acknowledge with how soft and fearful most people live, blows my mind how threatening a 40 year old retired guy enjoying a little grind and a few races can be to some.
What happened last night is unacceptable and I don’t care if you’re 16 or 60 years old, no one should have to be concerned a fuel pump will go out while enjoying your favorite sport!
I’m frustrated, mad and beyond disappointed with being broken. But you just have to dig in and ask the right questions, try to implement things to eliminate the issue happening again. These broken bones feel no different from my first broken bones at 10 year’s old This picture makes me smile! You better believe I’ll be back for more hard work and SX grind💪🏽
Thank you @mdkmotorsports for letting this big kid feel @wsxchampionship racing again 👊🏽”
Josh Grant, meanwhile, had a chain failure during his heat resulting in a nasty crash. According to Grant, he sustained a concussion in the crash. His status for round 2 in Australia is unknown at this time.
“Not exactly how we planned on our @wsxchampionship going but all and all I’m walking away healthy with just a concussion and a really sore body! I’m disappointed to let a lot of the people down that help us get here and especially for my home team crew… but it’s about the lesson of being able to get back up and keep moving forward! CH33RS!”

CR22 bummed you got ejected from your steed. Didn’t look as bad as it actually was. Hope you heal up quickly and come back stronger than before. By the way I’ve been a fan since day one with you on the #103 250 Yamaha racing hard against Bubba and Ricky. Those were the days
You are the reason that I love my Yamaha and can back it up with numerous wins. Just one question Chad. Why K.T.M.??
Just curious
