One of the worst-kept secrets in the pits is Christian Craig joining Monster Energy/Star Racing Yamaha in 2021. While that deal is not official, Craig has confirmed his departure from GEICO Honda after this weekend’s final round of Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross at Fox Raceway.
“In 2015, @fchonda gave me a chance with a fill in ride and that summer, I had good enough results to earn me a full time spot for 2016. It was a dream come true! Just a year later, I got my first supercross win. This team stuck by me through some tough times and I’m forever grateful for the 5 years with the team. I want to say a special thank you to Ziggy, Jeff, Mike Grondahl, Josh, & LaRocco along with all the mechanics, engine builders and suspension guys for always giving me the best. Forever family to me.”
Craig, currently filling-in for Ken Roczen at Honda HRC, had retired from professional racing before joining GEICO in 2015. He explained his departure more in the post-race press conference following Thunder Valley.
“I’m good for next year, obviously I can’t say where, but I think everyone kind of knows that,” he said. “I’ve been on a Honda for 10 years, which is pretty crazy to think about.
“I haven’t ridden a different kind of bike for 10 years, so it’s going to be bittersweet this weekend, final time riding a Honda at least for the future, but fun times and a lot of good memories with Honda.”
