As you may have seen, Cooper Webb was fined for “Refusing a broadcaster interview” following the Anaheim 2 Triple Crown.
As far as we know, this has never happened before in this sport. Whereas other sports like baseball or football mandate that an athlete must attend interview sessions, our sport really hasn’t. Until now.
The boys on Winners Take Y’all (now available on the Vurbmoto Podcast Network) had Cooper Webb on this week and he had this to say about what happened.
“After the first main event, they asked me to go to the podium and I know on Triple Crowns they only interview the winner. So, I just said, ‘Hey, I got second you guys know right?” and they were like yeah, they are still requesting you down there. I said, “Hey man, to be honest I’m kind of under the weather and I really need to get back and rest, is there anyway you can relay the message and let them know that I’m sick?’ The guy was like, no worries, I’ll let them know, they do really want you down there, but it’s up to you on what you want to do. I was like, okay sorry, I’m going to have to decline. Then the next thing you know, I got a fine for refusing an interview.”
Fines are a hot topic in this sport for the first four rounds of the series. It seems like the rules are a bit tighter when it comes to rules and regulations. We’ll keep our eyes posted to the penalty reports following each round!
