Yes, my title is a little misleading (because this was a decade ago), but you’re here now and the SEO should be great for 17 pageviews over the next 6 or 9 months. So keep reading.
People used to make motocross movies? Uhh, yeah… there was actually a time before Instagram where attention spans lasted more than 8 seconds. During this ancient era, you would go to a moto shop and buy a VHS, DVD, or Blu-Ray. And, believe it or not, making movies was actually a viable way filmers (and some athletes) could make a living. The medium did shift to iTunes for a quick second, but that was short-lived as Instagram came along and pretty much ruined the world.
However, during this Roman Era, we produced a literal handful of movies ourselves with titles such as: In the Ranks 1, In the Ranks 2, The Prospects, EPIC, and War Machines. As the editor, filmer, director, and producer of the relics, the amount of memories I’ve forgotten far outweighs the ones I actually do – so this is where I want your help.
I’ve started it off with the clip below, but curious what you think our Most Memorable Vurb Movie Moments of All-Time would be?
Since I’ve started this off, I might as well give some context to the clip itself. In 2014, we got called out to Chris Johnson’s house to shoot a quick clip for 100%. Just like now, they had a gangbuster amount of talent out there, and every which way you turned there was a great shot to get. We did what we call in the film world “spray and pray” – ultimately meaning you just shoot and hope to get some good shit.
As I was following Cooper Webb around the supercross track with my Red Epic-M and 300mm Canon lens, I saw a drone explode into MiniCoop right before my eyes. Yes, it scared the shit out of me. Somehow, someway, the drone perfectly got caught in between the fender and wheel and luckily caused zero damage to the dude that would go on to win a 250 Supercross Championship that season. A few inches in any direction, and I think it could’ve been a massively different outcome.
I don’t remember how pissed off Cooper was, but I can pretty much bet my house he was very unpleased by the incident. Believe it or not, Brian, the drone pilot, was also not happy. This was a brand new setup, camera and all, so if memory serves me correct this was a 15-20k oopsie. The movie part turned out sick though! If you still buy stuff on iTunes, hit the TV tab and look up War Machines.
Stay tuned as we countdown more awesome moments in the coming weeks and days.
