While the spotlight was on Haiden Deegan entering the first round of Supercross Futures at Anaheim 2, it was his teammate, Dax Bennick, who shined under the bright lights.
Akin to the 450 and 250 mains, Futures was filled in chaos and intrigue. It was Rockstar Energy Husqvarna teammates Talon Hawkins and Casey Cochran up front early. Cochran made a pass for the lead early and led the opening lap. But he made a mistake on lap 2, which allowed Hawkins back into the top spot.
Hawkins would lead the next three laps, before a massive mistake in the whoops allowed Bennick to take command of the lead.
Bennick would ride clean the next three laps to take the win. Hawkins made another mistake on the final lap, which allowed Cochran to take second. Hawkins would round out the podium.
Tough break for Deegan and Julien Beaumer in the main. The two fastest qualifiers both made big mistakes. Deegan hit Preston Boespflug in the main and went ejecto seato, cuz. Luckily, he was okay and would rebound to finish fifth.
Beaumer meanwhile had a massive case early in the race and his handlebars dropped down. He did manage to ride all the laps but was a non-factor and finished 16th on the night.
