The plot thickens in the story of Dean Wilson vs. Vince Friese.
I just went back down another wormhole to the Abu Dhabi round of the World Supercross Championship where these two originally (editor’s note: it’s entirely possible that they’ve had beef before this) started their beef.
For a refresher, here is an excerpt on what each of them said about one another on the Abu Dhabi podium.
“When Vince gets behind you, you know he’s going to clean you out, he’s a dirty rider.” Wilson said. “He was brake checking us in the tunnel. He wants to win though and I respect that, but brake checking and all that, there is no need for it.”
Here is what Friese thought about the racing in Abu Dhabi.
“Man, I was having a blast,” Friese said. “That’s fun for me, no ones hurting anybody, nobody is t-boning anybody, we’re racing hard.”
Then Friese stepped up to the mic and delivered what can only be described as a self proclaimed ‘himothy’ moment.
“Dean whines a little bit, he’s a pretty big whiner, but we’re going to make him tough and we’re going to race him here again in a few weeks.”
It’s clear that these two didn’t exchange Christmas cards, sing Christmas Carols together, make Christmas cookies together, or spread any Holiday cheer together. That’s truly quite sad when you think about it. That’s what the holiday season is all about.
Now, I’m not sure if you know this, but Anaheim 1 happened this past Saturday night. Friese made waves with his move on the heat race start, but that one was graded on a “not as bad as he’s ever been” moment.
Then in the ninth turn of THE FIRST LAP of the main event, Friese made an aggressive pass attempt on Wilson. This resulted in both of them going down and thus taking any chance of ever decorating a gingerbread house together off of the table. Wilson’s vlog captured everything. Friese immediately walked off of the track and Wilson told him that he was number one.
“Look how much he cuts the corner,” Wilson said in the vlog. “It’s obviously intentional, it’s kind of funny how karma works. He doesn’t even finish the race, possibly hurts himself, he tried cleaning me out for 11th place on the first lap. I just think it kind of shows what kind of clown that he really is.”
Wilson went on to finish 16th on the night. Friese on the other hand has a small shoulder separation as reported by Racer X’s Kris Keefer on X (aka Twitter). At the moment no word has been released on his injury or whether or not he will be back this weekend in San Francisco for round two.
“I literally can’t believe the stupidity of this guy,” Wilson added at the end of the vlog. “It’s mental, obviously I have a target on my back, which I knew, but to ruin your own race as well is so dumb.”
Hopefully this is the last time these two have issues with one another, but given the current evidence, it’s highly likely something else will happen.
One thing that won’t be happening is a Christmas card exchange, until at least 2032.
Racing has rubbing. Anyone with enough gate drop experience realizes it. Friese is just dirty. If me, a relatively slow guy, knows how and where to place contact with another rider to pretty much guarrantee there front wheel is chopped out as I than inherit their position…Friese certainly does. His repeated actions are those of purposely wrecking others. The riders know it. The AMA knows it. I hope a Friese’d rider who is injured due to Vince, gets a good lawyer andvsues the AMA for their lost income. The AMA is knowingly allowing someone to race…who is knowingly engaging in action to set riders up for injury…not of their doing.
