Eli Tomac is so fing back. Nope, a ruptured Achilles will not stop the man.
As we all know, but I’ll still recap, Tomac was on his way to a third 450SX title at his hometown race, leading the main event, when he ruptured his Achilles. It was pure heartbreak. Something you wouldn’t even wish on Troy Dog.
Tomac has already begun rehab and is back with Monster Energy/Star Racing Yamaha in 2024. He was on the Racer X Podcast this week with Steve Matthes, of PulpMX Hockey fame, and confirmed its the same deal as last year: SX-only with option for Pro Motocross and SMX Playoffs.
“We have a good thing going, so it was like, ‘Heck ya, let’s work together again,’” he said. “So it was fairly easy to make the decision as a team to continue the relationship.
“Do I really need to do anymore? That was what was going through my head. And then it turned into I don’t want to end my career like this.”
“What it really came down to, I did not want to finish my career rolling off the track with my foot hanging off the side of my bike.”
Tomac also talked about the devastating injury in Denver:
“It was a miserable experience. It was the ultimate nightmare. I was leading the race.. what did I have 18 points or something in the championship. Two races to go. It was like the worse thing ever.”
Tomac added that he hopes to be back riding November 1st.
It’s a great interview, so go listen below or search Steve Matthes Show on Apple and stuff.
