Eli Tomac Set For Surgery on Friday “Can’t believe the way it happened”

Monster Energy/Star Racing Yamaha’s Eli Tomac took to social media on Wednesday to provide an update following the announcement that he sustained a broken fibula in qualifying at round 5 of Monster Energy AMA Supercross in Tampa last Saturday.

In his post, Tomac said he will undergo more scans today (Thursday) to get a “game plan” for surgery on Friday in Vail, Colorado.

What was initially thought to be an ankle sprain and bruised calf, Tomac gutted through the night show in Tampa and finished 17th place. After further evaluation following the race, it was discovered that he had a broken fibula.

“Back to a place I’m all too familiar with, Vail, Colorado,” said Tomac. “Tomorrow I’m getting more scans to see what is going on. That being an MRI and then we are making a game plan for surgery on Friday. That’s the update on the old fibula. Just such a bummer. Can’t believe the way it happened. Apparently the foot peg won in this situation. Tried to tough it out but at the end of the day a broken bone is a broken bone.”

At this time, there is no indication on when Eli may return to racing. Expect more updates following surgery.
