It’s official: Enzo Lopes is joining the powerful Monster Energy/Star Racing Yamaha squad.
Slaw ain’t up all this behind the scenes stuff with this deal, but according to Steve Matthes, he of PulpMX Hockey fame, Lopes had a deal with ClubMX Yamaha, the team he’s ridden for the past couple years, but used a clause to be able to sign with Star Yamaha.
The Brazilian is on a Supercross-only deal with the team for 2024.
In the last few years, Lopes has really blossomed, finishing fifth overall or better in the 250SX (2020, 2022 and 2023) at the end of the year. He will join Nate Thrasher, Haiden Deegan, Jordon Smith, Stilez Robertson, Nick Romano, and Daxton Bennick on the squad for Supercross.
Jensen Hendler – Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing 250 Team Manager:
“We’re happy to have Enzo join our program for 2024. He’s continued to make progress, and we feel that he can be a title contender. We’ve just started to get working with him, and we can’t wait to see what he can do.”
Enzo Lopes – Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing
“I am super excited to join the Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing team for 2024. Growing up in Brazil, it has always been my dream to represent a factory team, and to make that a reality with the best makes me eager to work even harder. I’ve been training with Swanie (Gareth Swanepoel) and the team for a couple of days now, and it has been awesome. I know I have what it takes to win, and with the right team and program around me, the sky is the limit. I can’t wait to go racing!”
