It’s been an awesome day three of racing for the 43rd Annual Amateur Motocross Championship at Loretta Lynn’s Ranch! Despite us having a million motos in one day, we are going to cover a handful, at least on the written side of things. Our guy Chilidog is filming every Moto and every day, just like it’s 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, ahhh you get the picture.

Champions are starting to be crowned as we’re into our third and final motos!

WMX – Moto 2

It’s Friday and I haven’t covered a WMX race yet. I’m sorry. I was wrong and I’ll never let this happen again. Now we can all heal and move on.

Defending champion and first moto winner Kyleigh Stallings took off in this one from the drop of the gate. Mikayla Nielsen, LaLa Turner, and Jordan Jarvis were also up front inside the top five. One of the biggest stories of this moto was Turner who went from 6th to a podium spot. Turner is also racing the Girls (11-16) class here at the Ranch and she could potentially win that title with 1-2 scores heading into the final moto. She has to deal with Mayla Herrick who has 2-1 scores.

This one was all Kyleigh Stallings who is going for her fourth Loretta Lynn’s title.

Supermini 2 (13-16) – Moto 2

It looks like the third moto of this Supermini Showdown is going to come down to three riders: Aiden Zingg, Vincent Wey, and Carson Wood.

This race started out with Tristan Pruitt up front withWood, Ryder Ellis, and Wey all right there. Pruitt did hold strong throughout the duration of the moto. He would drop to sixth by the checkers, but he was strong throughout the race. Wood took over the lead from Pruitt early and wouldn’t check out. He had Wey and Aiden Zingg breathing down his neck throughout the race all the way to the checkers.

The third moto of this class is going to be a CAN’T MISS race. So, be sure to tune in as Wood, Wey, or Zingg could take this championship home.

65cc (7-9) Limited

Maverick Gresham-Lewis has been a breakout star of this class this year (as called by me) and he set out with the early lead in this moto. Jax Baker, Kannon Zabojnik, and Levi Geis were all up front in this one as well. Zabojnik kept the pressure on Gresham-Lewis and with five minutes to go started to look for ways around. Gresham-Lewis would get cross-rutted in storyland and that would be all she wrote. Zabojnik took the moto win and the title after Baker and Beckham Smith all had to make moves through the pack. Smith, who won the first moto was waaaaaay back in this one. Gresham Lewis showed he had the speed to run with the factory 65 riders this week, he just ran into some crashes and in one moto his bike overheated.

Results:

  1. Kannon Zabojnik
  2. Jax Baker
  3. Beckham Smith
  4. Talon Hinson
  5. Jett Rau

Senior (40+)

I was supposed to cover the 250 B L:imited class today, but I made a CEO move since this 40+ moto was one of the best finishes EVER at the Ranch!

Mike Brown started out up front with Andrew Short, Jeff Gibson, Shane Kelleher, and Jeff Emig behind. Kelleher would make the pass on Gibson, as would Emig. The be second best part of this moto was watching Kellher hold off Emig. Kelleher was mad dogging it out there and forcing himself into ruts and doing everything he could to keep the AMA Hall of Famer behind him. Kevin Kelly said it best, “It’s like watching sausage being made.”

Brown was set to win another title with 2-1-1 scores, but on the last lap Short decided he was going to send it. He had to catch Brown, who had a three second lead at the start of the lap. With two turns to go, Shorty sent the triple into the sand and Brownie didn’t! Then Short went to the outside in the Bermuda Triangle turn and caught Brownie in a photo finish. A 0.00 gap at the line!

Results:

  1. Andrew Short
  2. Mike Brown
  3. Jeff Emig
  4. Jeff Gibson
  5. James McNeill

Overall Final Results

  1. Andrew Short 1-2-1
  2. Mike Brown 2-1-2
  3. Jeff Emig 5-3-3
  4. Shane Kelleher 3-4-7
  5. James McNeill 7-5-5

250 Pro Sport

The final 250 Pro Sport moto of the week was actually a bright spot for Leum Oehlhof, who led half of the race before Drew Adams found his way around. Oehlhof proved he has what it takes all week and despite some inconsistency he was up front in the majority of the motos. He’ll make a great pro soon.

However, this moto was another Drew Adams show, who took his fourth win of the week and the first Pro Sport title, he’s set up nicely for the Open Pro Sport championship with 1-1 scores as well. Cole Davies finally put another podium moto together in this one behind Adams for second.

Results:

  1. Drew Adams
  2. Cole Davies
  3. Parker Ross
  4. Leum Oehlhof
  5. Avery Long

Overall Final Results

  1. Drew Adams 4-1-1
  2. Avery Long 2-3-5
  3. Cole Davies 1-8-2
  4. Leum Oehlhof 3-4-4
  5. Parker Ross 7-2-3
