Welcome to the last day at Loretta Lynn’s. What a week, what an event, what… yeah, let’s get this going.
Here are five motos from the final day that you need to know about.
Supermini 1 Moto 3
The Champ: Grant McDonald 2-2-2
The Heartbreak: Aidan Zingg going 5-1-1 for second overall.
The Recap: Aidan Zingg has had a breakout week at the Ranch, but he needed a lot of help if he was going to claim the Supermini 1 title. A fifth in the first moto hurt his chances and he entered the final moto needing a win and some help from Grant McDonald. Well, he didn’t get any. Dannyn Reed took the holeshot but was overtaken by McDonald. Zingg would eventually move past McDonald, who settled into second to take his first career title.
After the moto, McDonald said his best finish prior to this week was a seventh. Crazy. Stay positive kids, you never know when things will turn around.
The Results:
1: Grant McDonald 2-2-2
2: Aidan Zingg 5-1-1
3: Dannyn Reed 3-6-3
65cc 7-9 Moto 3
The Champ: Kannon Zabojnik
The Heartbreak: Beckham Smith who had his rear brake go out while leading the moto. He had a DNF 35th.
The Recap: While he wasn’t in the hunt for the championship after an 11th in the second moto, Bechman Smith still wanted to take his second moto win of the week. He got off to a great start and led the opening 4 laps or so before he suffered a mechanical (apparently his rear brake went out). This allowed Kannon Zabojnik (what a last name, btw) to take the lead, the moto win and the title.
The Results:
1: Kannon Zabojnik 4-1-1
2: Gavyn Welzien 6-2-4
3: Levi Geis 7-5-2
85cc (10-12) Limited Moto 3
The Champ: Nolan Ford
The Heartbreak: Gauge Brown going 25-2-2 for ninth overall
The Recap: This was Nolan Ford’s title to lose entering the final moto. Ford would snag the holeshot but had pressure from Gauge Brown. The two swapped positions before Brown finally made a pass stick. The rider on the move early though was Tayce Morgan. Morgan started third but by lap 4 had made his way around Ford for second. He then set his sights on Brown and by the following lap was in the lead. Brown went down shortly after but was able to hang on to second. Ford settled for fourth to take the title.
The Results:
1: Nolan Ford 1-1-4
2: Sawyer Gieck 2-5-6
3: Tayce Morgan 4-12-1
Schoolboy 1 (12-17) B/C Moto 3
The Champ: Owen Covell
The Heartbreak: Trinnytie Batchelor who crashed while running second and finished the moto sixth, which meant he just missed out on the overall podium.
The Recap: This class was dominated by Owen Covell all week long and the third moto was no different. He got the holeshot, and yeah, that was all she wrote as he took his third moto win of the week and the title. Trinnytie Batchelor ran second for much of the moto but crashed and ended up sixth overall. McKayden Fitch took second in the moto, which propelled him to third overall.
The Results:
1: Owen Covell 1-1-1
2: Brennon Harrison 3-4-3
3: McKayden Fitch 6-3-2
Open Pro Sport Moto 3
The Champ: Drew Adams
The Heartbreak: Parker Ross going 12-3-4 for sixth overall.
The Recap: We’ve talked a lot about Drew Adams this week and for good reason. The kid was just next level this week. He won 5 of 6 motos, the Horizon Award and was just flat out amazing. In the third Pro Sport moto, it looked like he would have a challenge as Cole Davies and Avery Long were 1-2 early. But Drew did what he’s done all week and chased both down (also, please go look at his pass on Long into the sand section. It was next level) and took off the moto win. Great bounce back for Davies after a tough week, even though he said he woke up sick this morning. Great week from the Yamaha boys, Avery Long and Leum Oehlhof as well.
The Results:
1: Drew Adams 1-1-1
2: Avery Long 7-2-3
3. Leum Oehlhof 3-8-5
