Another week and another headline from Haiden Deegan! I’m absolutely loving the variety of different podium quotes from Deegan this summer. The only thing that I don’t like is that it’s usually at the expense of other riders. Well, this week was no different! This week the topic of conversation is Chance Hymas again.
At the beginning of the second 250 Moto, Deegan ended up on the ground of the first turn, and then his bike collected a plethora of other riders in the process.
According to those involved in this pile up, as well as fans in the comment section, we have a bunch of sides to how this crash happened. Here’s what Deegan had to say on the podium after the race…
Deegan did end up going easier on Hymas later on in the press conference.
“I ripped a fast start!” Deegan said. “It was actually kind of sick, I came out of the gate perfect, my rear wheel hooked up, and I just launched out. Yeah, me and Chance came together, ended up going down. Actually the way I fell, it put my body in a good spot where I didn’t get run over. I was right behind my bike literally watching everyone get stuck in my bike, it was crazy.”
This quote from Deegan is also on brand as well. As you can see in the main image, he literally had to ‘hiyahh’ his pipe back into its spot.
“Yeah, my pipe was hanging out the other side of my bike, so I had to kick it in,” Deegan said. “I knew it was a mud race, so I knew everyone would be going a little slower than usual, so I had to have perfect laps. I didn’t want to make mistakes.”
HRC Honda Team Manager Lars Lindstrom had a conversation with Racer X’s Jason Weigandt on the Weege Show following the race and gave his opinions on the first turn crash.
“I feel like it was a racing incident,” Lindstrom said. “I swear that Chance started losing the front and stuck his leg out and Deegan was right there and hit his leg.”
Here is another view of the incident thanks to Octaneco on Instagram.
Lindstrom went on to say that Hymas’ most likely has a bone bruise in his ankle from the ordeal, but nothing is broken. Lindstrom also said that Hymas will have to get his ligaments checked still to make sure nothing is wrong there.
Hymas did say in his Instagram update that the goal is to attempt to race at Washougal this weekend.
Deegan charged from the back and finished fourth in the second Moto and a 3-4 was good enough for second overall on the day. He did post this on Instagram after the race.
Washougal is next, which is also the home to Levi Kitchen, as well as Deegan’s first ever 1-1 performance last year.
What will he say this weekend? My popcorn is ready,
