We talked a bit about this yesterday, but Calvin Vlaanderen took a STUNNING WIN at the MXGP in Italy over the weekend.
Seriously, if there were betting odds entering the weekend, CV(S) probably would have been like +500 to win. No disrespect to maybe my new favorite rider, but Tim Gajser has been dominating and well, CV(S) didn’t even have an overall podium to his name since entering the class in 2020.
I really don’t know how to compare this to AMA terms. Maybe Lewis at MX Vice can help. Would it be like Brandon Hartranft winning an overall? Again, NO disrespect to The Brick, but I think people would be stunned if he won an overall this summer.
I digress.
The whole reason for this article was CV(S)’ reaction after his win. You could tell how much this win meant to him and it was amazing to see. Pure tears of joy!
To finish it off, CV(S) laid down an absolute truth bomb stating: “I’m gonna get drunk tonight!” YEEESSSSSS! Of course you are! This is exactly what Slaw and ALL of you (except for those that don’t drink of course) would do if you won a FING MXGP! I love it.
While he has a long way to go to overtake a Mister Stew Baylor (get well soon, Stu) as my favorite rider, I do think he’s now my favorite European rider.
