James Stewart has basically won everywhere that he’s ever raced, multiple times. This week the 2024 Monster Energy Supercross Championship heads to Arlington, so I figured it would be fun to look through Stew’s results and pull his wins from this city.
It’s important to note that I pulled his wins from Irving as well for this feature. For a long time, before the Jerry Dome was built, the series went to Texas Stadium in Irving. This is where the Cowboys played from 1971 until 2008. Irving is a “inner ring suburb of Dallas”, according to Google, so it counts.
2003 Irving – 125SX West
Stew was on a roll in 2003 before the series reached Irving in mid-April of 2003. This was his sixth win of an eventual seven on the season. Less than a month later he would crash out of the Dave Coombs 125SX Showdown in Las Vegas and would break his collarbone. Stew was forced to miss four rounds of outdoors before coming back and winning the final eight rounds. Stewart was on top of the world in 2003.
2005 Irving – 250SX/450SX
Stew’s first premier class win! A classic. As a 14-year-old fan watching these races, I was absolutely gutted at round two in Phoenix when Stew got hurt. We had the “Perfect Storm” mud race at Anaheim 1 the week before, which was awesome. Yet, it wasn’t a true test of what the series was capable of that year. The beginning of the Phoenix broadcast showed Stew breaking his arm and we had to wait months for him to come back. It felt like 10 years to me. When he did come back it only took him two rounds to get his first win.
2007 Irving – 450SX
Stew’s first 450SX Championship season! Irving was his 10th win of 13 total on the season. Total dominance.
2014 Dallas – 450SX
This was Stew’s second of five wins in 2014. If someone had told me that Stew had won five main events in 2014 I wouldn’t have bet money on it. I knew that he was dialed in that season, but with Ryan Dungey, Ryan Villopoto, Chad Reed, some new kid named Kenny Roczen, and crew, I didn’t realize he had five wins. It was his first and only win in the Jerry Dome.
