“We Might Get an MRI,” Jett Lawrence’s Shoulder Injury Is Worse Than Originally Thought

The word around the pits this weekend was that Jett Lawrence is injured worse than originally thought from his Hangtown crash. The shoulder is not healing as the Lawrence camp thought it would and they used the weekend off from racing to hopefully get on the right track for the last half of the Pro Motocross Championship.

In the press conference the first question went to Jett about how the shoulder was feeling during the race and whether or not it affected him after Chase Sexton made the move on him and pulled an almost ten second lead for the win.

“I think it’s just like your body is pretty aware that that’s the weakest spot,” Jettson said. “So, it kind of over compensates on the other half. I was just using my legs so much more and obviously they’re not used to getting used more than normal. I think they just got extra tired, but we’ll go back and work harder.”

The press conference was only around seven minutes long this week, so we’re not sure what that was about. Perhaps not many member of the media stayed for it after a very busy media day on Friday. Either way, Jett was asked a follow-up question on whether or not that he would require surgery on his shoulder.

“We’ve kind of been discussing really what it actually is,” Jett said. “At first we just thought that it was bruising, or something like that, or that we pulled the muscle. For how long and slow that it’s taken to heal we might get an MRI or something because the muscle could be torn or something like that. We’re not really 100% sure on what it is. We’re going to use one of these breaks to get an MRI, or even after this one, because we aren’t sure.”

Jett also said that he thought that the weekend off would have healed his shoulder injury better than it did, which raises concern in his camp that he’s injured worse than originally thought.

“Each time that I’d try to train, ride, and use it it’d go back to that same spot then it would heal up and drop a bit.

This is the most interesting story in the 450 title hunt at the moment. The defending champ is struggling with an injury and hasn’t held the red plate since Hangtown where it took place. Sure, he’s only three points down from his brother Hunter, and he closed in even more after the overall win at Southwick. He’s still knocking off wins with the injury, so it may come down to how much pain he can withstand during the next six rounds to lock in another championship.

“No excuses, we still got an overall win, so that definitely makes it easier for 100%.”

We’ll keep an eye on this developing story.
