Jorge Prado’s first full season in Monster Energy AMA Supercross has suffered a major setback.
Monster Energy Kawasaki announced today that the World Champion will undergo surgery on his shoulder. On his own Instagram, Prado said this will cost him the remainder of Supercross.
“Bad news :/ Surgery is needed to fix my shoulder and I will be out for the rest of the Supercross season. Time of rehab is unknown and hopefully I can make it to the start of outdoors. I will be back strong like I always do.”
The multi-time World Champion sustained a dislocated shoulder in 450SX qualifying last Saturday at Anaheim 2 after he over jumped in a rhythm section and crashed over a berm and into a safety net.
“I overjumped the quad a little bit in qualifying and went into the berm,” he said in a Kawasaki press release. “I tried to grab the net on the edge of the berm because I didn’t have anywhere else to go, and as soon as I grabbed it I felt my shoulder pop out. It’s a shame because it was not a big crash just a little mistake on my part, but I couldn’t avoid it. My shoulder was popped back into place 30 seconds later and it’s feeling good now, not very painful. I need to sit out and rest and see how my shoulder feels after today and evaluate from there.”
In his first full-time season in the U.S. Prado went 14-12 at the opening two rounds and is currently 15th in points.
