Well, s***, Kailub Russell is hurt and may not make the opening round of Lucas Oil Pro Motocross set for May 29 at Fox Raceway in Pala, California.
It was recently confirmed that the eight-time GNCC Champion would join the Red Bull Factory KTM 250 team alongside Max Vohland for the entire Pro Motocross season.
“He was with the KTM group, he talked to his team manager Anti [Kallonen] about racing the nationals. They came and talked to us and we’re like, “Hey, it’s 12 rounds,” and John said, “Hey, this guy has been so special to our company, he’s done so much for us, it would be awesome to give back.” So that’s what we ended up doing and we’ll see how it goes! It’s going to be exciting,” team manager Ian Harrison told Racer X.
Well, Russell was testing at Pala and had a big crash and suffered a broken jaw and three ribs. It’s unknown when he can resume riding.
“Don’t know where to start. Had a week booked to be out here in California riding and testing to get ready for this summer. Spent yesterday morning riding Pala, we had just found a good setting I was comfortable with and working into trying to pick up the pace. I lost the front end just before this big roller and my clutch hand came off the bike and I whiskey throttled clear into the fence.
I was unconscious until the ambulance arrived, was diagnosed with 3 broken ribs and a broken jaw. (Which is wired shut now.)
Thank you to everyone that has reached out and lended a hand yesterday! Also @bobbyd___ @hinzfifty7 and @anttikallonen for going above and beyond for me the past 24hr.
Im not sure where this leaves me to be ready to race this summer. Definitely going to be tough to make it to the first couple of rounds. But damnit, this will only make it that much sweeter!”
