Ken Roczen on Shoulder Injury: Ligaments are “Nearly Completely Torn”

Progressive Insurance ECSTAR Suzuki’s Ken Roczen took to Instagram on Tuesday to further detail the shoulder injury he is currently dealing with.

During the off-week ahead of round 10 in Birmingham, Alabama, Ken sustained an AC separation in his shoulder in a practice crash. He raced Birmingham and this past Saturday in Seattle, finishing 5th and 4th overall.

Prior to Seattle, Roczen said he got his MRI results back (on Friday) and that his ligaments are “nearly completely torn.”

“Gave all i had in Seattle,” he wrote on Instagram. “My shoulder is just not solid. I got my MRI results back on Friday before the race and my ligaments nearly completely torn. The track got super gnarly and i just settled in a brought it home in 4th. Big bummer with the current situation but we keep it going!”

In a post-race press release via Suzuki, Roczen said his shoulder needs a “lot of rest” right now.

“My shoulder needs a lot of rest. My ligaments are almost torn in the AC joint, so if I fall, I will likely make it worse. So right now I am picking my battles; I wanted to make through this weekend. I am going to keep doing what I’m doing, and hopefully we can get back to 100% before the season is over.”

Roczen is currently third in points, 34 behind points leader Cooper Webb.
