Oh Canada! Earlier this year two very successful amateurs announced that they would be racing in the Canadian Triple Crown Series. Those riders being Tiger Wood and Drew Adams.
Tiger is part of the Honda GDR Fox team where he will compete all season. So far Tiger has had a decent go at the series and is slowly finding his way around the big bike.
Drew Adams joined the Partzilla/PRMX Team and quickly found his way to the podium. Drew currently sits third points and only ten down from current leader Kaven Benoit.
Now another high ranking amateur, and Adam’s Pro Circuit teammate, Krystian Janik announced earlier this week that he will soon be heading to Canada.
I assumed this meant he will be joining Adams underneath the PRMX tent to get a few gate drops in before Loretta Lynn’s, but Janik will be racing under the WLTN Kawasaki rig. Janik has been back on the bike since March, and with minimum gate drops, I could see him competing in the next three rounds before heading back to the States to compete at the Ranch.
Is this the new norm? Will we start seeing more amateur riders go to Canada to get in some competitive gate drops? Besides Loretta’s we do lack competitive amateur races over the summer in the United States. I think it’s a great idea. After the spring nationals, besides Loretta’s qualifiers, these guys don’t get many gate drops. A select few will get invited to the combine at RedBud, but that’s pretty much it.
This will give the rider plenty of competition and will help the teams make decisions with how they can perform up North. I’m all for it.
