Loretta Lynn’s Ranch, owned by famous musician Loretta Lynn, holds a special place in our sport. The Ranch has hosted the AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship since 1982 and a few weeks ago celebrated it’s 40th year.
This past weekend, Hurricane Mills, home of the Ranch, and the nearby town of Waverly were devastated by flash flooding in the area.
The photos and video that have emerged in recent days are awful.
Jon Cody Finger shared a video with FOX 17 News showing the devastation that happened over the weekend. You can read more about the situation at FOX 17 News.
“It’s devastating! So many homes, pets and people’s lives lost today. It’s hard to describe,” Finger wrote on Facebook.
MX Sports, promoters of the event, issued the following statement:
Hurricane Mills, Tennessee, home to Loretta Lynn’s Ranch, and the nearby town of Waverly, were devastated on Saturday by flash flooding. The floods were caused by a massive rainstorm that dropped nearly 15 inches of rain in 24 hours, catching the entire community off guard. Loretta Lynn’s Ranch, Hurricane Mills, Waverly and the surrounding area have hosted the AMA Amateur National Motocross Championships for 40 years now—the 2021 event took place just a couple of weeks ago. While Loretta Lynn herself and her immediate family are safe, many neighbors—many of whom work at and around the motocross races every year—have lost everything, including loved ones. The images of a flooded Hurricane Mills, an iconic place in amateur motocross, are stunning and sad.MX Sports, organizers of the motocross events at Loretta Lynn’s Ranch, are reaching out to local officials in Tennessee to find ways that the U.S. motocross community can help with this terrible and still-unfolding tragedy. The people who live in these severely flooded areas have long been supportive and helpful to the visiting motocross world, and we will be there for them as they try to heal and rebuild from this awful storm. We will soon be announcing ways in which the motocross community can help support and contribute to the people of Hurricane Mills and surrounding areas.
Everyone here at Vurb offers our sincere condolences to everyone in the area during this difficult time.
