Morning Espresso, Storylines: Seattle

Welcome to Morning Espresso, an awesome piece presented by MotoSport.com. Go check out RDRCO (pronounced “rider-co”) as the company’s exclusive riding gear. This new gear line offers an affordable option for weekend riders and the casual racer.

Thursday is a great day to start sorting through all of the storylines that Monster Energy Supercross has to offer. It’s not too close and not too far away from the race on Saturday night. It builds the right amount of excitement, not too much and not too little. It’s science.

The good news for all of us is that this season has been absolutely crazy and we’re only a little over halfway through doggies! I went ahead and picked through millions of storylines and narrowed it down to what looks like several hundred.

Welcome to what is sure to be another trip to the Seattle slip n’ slide! Rain is in the forecast for Saturday and it seems like these guys can’t catch a break this season with open stadiums. The 250 West Region resumes this weekend and that championship battle is very close.

Here are the top stories heading into Seattle, Washington round 11 of the Monster Energy Supercross Championship.

  • Dylan Ferrandis has announced that he will be sitting out Seattle due to an infection in his lungs.
  • Max Vohland announced that he will miss the rest of the Monster Energy Supercross season.
  • It’s a three rider race for the 250SX West Region Championship. Entering Seattle, Levi Kitchen leads Jordon Smith by four points and RJ Hampshire by five points.
  • Seattle is the home race for the Chef.
  • RJ is the only two-time winner in the west.
  • Garrett Marchbanks is still on the outside looking in on this title. He sits fourth in points and is 19 points down.
  • Mitchell Oldenburg is sixth in points.
  • Anthony Bourdon is seventh in points.
  • Carson Mumford is ninth in points.
  • Hunter Yoder is tenth in points.
  • Jett Lawrence has won three main events in a row.
  • Kyle Chisholm chizzed again. He tied his season best finish thirteenth in Indy.
  • Jett has a 21 point lead over Cooper Webb.
  • Shane McElrath is thirteenth in points.
  • The Cowboy hasn’t had a podium in three rounds.
  • The West Region has five more rounds to settle this title.
  • We miss Dean Wilson.
  • Justin Starling made his first main event in Indy and ate Taco Bell afterwards.
  • Eli Tomac hasn’t been inside the top five in two rounds. (He finished fourth in Main Event 1 at Indy, does that count?)
  • Jo Shimoda made his first podium at Glendale before the break, does he come in with more fire than he had to start the year?
  • Chase Sexton’s hand seems to be better.
  • Adam Cianciarulo is the people’s champ, but you already knew that.
  • Justin Cooper is building.
  • Ken Roczen seems to be the only rider that can hang with Jett, can he find that extra speed he needs to beat him?
  • It’s going to be another mudder.
