The Monster Energy Supercross Championship is past the halfway point and visited Birmingham, Alabama for the first time. The track was tamed down during the week due to the rain, but that didn’t tame down the racing one bit.
This season has delivered so much drama already in both classes. Here’s a quick rundown of what happened last night in the 250 and 450 main events.
This clip doesn’t show Haiden Deegan off of the track that caused the AMA to penalize him two positions, but it occurred at this moment off screen. Tom Vialle got out front early and never looked back.
Jalek Swoll was running a strong third and hoping to give Triumph their first podium, but tipped over with six minutes to go.
Points leader Max Anstie’s bike came to a stop causiing the Firepower Honda rider to DNF on the evening. Anstie did a really nice job of composing himself on the broadcast despite everything. It was a good look for him.
Deegan made a last turn pass on Coty Schock for seventh, but was later docked two positions for “gaining an advantage while off track”. Schock and Deegan would have words and the AMA’s John Starling would have to intervene after the race.
In the 450 Class, Jett Lawrence grabbed the holeshot and led wire to wire.
Monster Energy Star Racing Yamaha’s Justin Cooper held a strong third for a while before Ken Roczen made the pass.
Note: The 30 second card holder that was hit on the track during the first lap of the 450 Main Event is okay.
