Welcome to the 2023 Slaw/Troy Dog/Ginger Dog Combined 250/450 Top Ten Power Rankings! Slaw, Ginger, and Troy each have created their own list of who they believe carry the most power in the sport. They each have created their own categories and have weighted these people accordingly, whether its speed, following, skills, you name it. Or it could just be random. Basically, whatever is happening that week is fair game.
Each week these rankings will be updated so that you guys can argue about how wrong they are in the comment section! Feel free to tell us if we’re right/wrong/or completely dumb.
Slaw Dog
-What really needs to be said here? Very cool storyline in Pro Moto.
-Wes, Chase, and Crane are killing it on the VRB. Check it out on YT and stuff.
-Sometimes you have to be the bigger person. Despite Grant’s slander on Slaw on the Squad Pod I still have him raked high. Just remember who was the bigger person here.
-Liam grabbed his first GP last weekend. Very cool for the third generation Everts.
-Ken is back!
-Phil is back!
-Slaw has been high on Hymas for a while. Good to see him grab that moto podium.
-Jett gonna Jett!
-Hunter gonna Hunter!
-The Brough family run and operate Mesquite MX, site of the World Mini Grand Prix. Well, their son, Gavin, has made the top 40 in back-to-back races. Cool for the Broughs!
Troy Dog
-The amount of adversity that Ashton Bloxom has faced in the past six years would be something I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy. He fought through several shoulder injuries towards the end of his amateur career and he even quit racing a couple times because of those problems. With the backing of Bloxom Construction and the T-Dog Squad, Bloxom is racing the entire Pro Motocross Championship in the 250 class. At Thunder Valley he made his first 40 man gate straight out of practice and raced two complete motos. It was a dream come true. Great work Ash Dog, the best is yet to come, and Happy Birthday!
-Ty Masterpool did something that a privateer hasn’t done in quite a while, which was pass multiple factory riders in the same race. He almost had 3rd in a moto!
-The Squad Pod is now THREE episodes in. Make sure that you listen to it wherever you download your pods. We have it on our Vurbmoto Podcast Network, which now has an IG and Twitter account!
-Har Dog almost had the holeshot in the 2nd 450 moto and was hunting down Adam Cianciarulo on the last lap. Cooper Webb was in sight as well. If it wasn’t for Ty Masterpool he’d have been top privateer again. What are they feeding those dudes in Texas?
-Levi Kitchen was mad a few weeks ago that he didn’t make this list and hasn’t talked to me since. I just wanted to let him know that you have to EARN your way on the Power Rankings. This week he did in fact earn his way on. Thunder Valley was a step in the right direction for him. Now, if I could just get him on my pod for a fan favorite segment called “Ask Chef”.
-Terren O’Dell had one goal going into Thunder Valley and that was to make the motos. Well, after a 2nd in the 450 LCQ, he accomplished that. O’Dell raced his first national in 13 years, everyone was stoked, and in his mind…he won.
-My great friend, the legendary Jason Harvey, loves Power Rankings, motocross, Weezer, and fishing on a lake. The other day he was giving his son a geography lesson and it made my day. Harv Dog was heading to Lake Erie and he told his son that it was one of the Great Lakes. His son said, “How do you know it’s a great lake if you’ve never fished there before?”
-Former Friends sitcom star, and former Star Yamaha amateur prospect, Matt LeBlanc had everyone on their toes the other day. He had people believing that he had a Triumph deal signed and he said that he was lining up for the 450 class at High Point. Me being a very respected journalist in the field, I went to the source to get the answers. It turns out that he’s not making a comeback, but everyone was excited for it, and you love to see that. It turns out that LeBlanc is a HUGE fan of Power Rankings. Just mine though, not Slaws.
-Call it biased or whatever, but the T-Dog Squad’s own Derek Kelley has earned this Power Ranking. The man had a very bad injury at the end of Supercross that put him in the hospital. He wasn’t ready for the opener, raced it anyway, and he’s still racing into shape. At Thunder Valley he raced more like himself with 15-15 moto scores. It’s a step in the right direction. He should only get better from here.
-Ginger Dog bought our son a Nintendo Switch for our upcoming vacation car ride, which means she bought herself a Switch. So far, she’s undefeated at Mario Kart and it’s not too soon to call it a perfect season. She’s also beating the absolute crap out of these ghosts on Luigi’s Mansion. Send help.
Ginger Dog
-Ty. As far as I’m concerned you won Thunder Valley.
-Jett makes riding a dirt bike look so insanely easy that sometimes I even think I could do it.
-Three in a row. He also handled the cross jumping like a champ, because well, he is one.
-Your qualifying times are always wicked fast and you pulled an overall 2nd. You’re going to top them all soon I can feel it.
-In the words of Stew, “He’s riding really good and I’d put him up against anybody right now. That’s how good that kid is riding.”
-Chance put out his career best results with an 11-3 placing 5th overall. I keep thinking about moto 1 where he went from almost dead last to 11th.
-He dominated Thunder Valley and made his first 40 man gate of the season. I’m pretty confident he’s going to do the same at High Point. Congrats, Ash! You’ve put so much into this and it’s cool to see it all come together. The best part was seeing that your family was there with you to soak it all in.
-Moved up to 450. Overall 7th on the new Yami. I know I’ve said it about other dudes, but the same goes to Garrett. Moving up was necessary. Top 5 at High Point?
-I get to mention one of my all time favorites in power ranks this week so that’s pretty freaking cool. 22 is joining the WSX team in a pretty unique way. I was most excited to see that he is going to be a major part of the broadcast team. Be ready because the OG Aussie is going to be hosting exclusive behind-the-scenes content. I honestly just love anything Reedy is a part of.
-I like Stew in the booth. He explains things to us plebeians who don’t ride dirt bikes in a way that just makes sense. He also doesn’t seem to know much about privateers and it’s awesome in a good way. He means well and he’s just fun.
