Power Rankings: San Francisco with Special Guests JLaw and Denny Stephenson

POWER RANKINGS ARE HERE!

Yep, the most entertaining rankings in the entire world are back for a brand new SuperMotocross season. And we have not one, but TWO, special guests this week. Jason Lawrence (Law Dog) returns and we welcome a Mister Denny Stephenson into the mix. Ginger Dog is also back 🙂 but so is Troy 🙁

Slaw is out this week. Too many claws.

Let’s get into round 2 rankings!

Den Dog

-You remember this guy.? The first to ever win a SX as a 16-year-old rookie? Anything else is just semantics.

-JuJu! I had no idea who this kid was when he first showed up in the Futures last year. My buddy Checkz gave me the 411 on Beaumer. What a bad ass 250W SX debut. Get on the bandwagon before it’s full. Beep! Beep!

-I’m a Rick James fan. But honestly, who isn’t? I had him as the favorite over Jo and Co and Hampshire delivered. This is your 24SX 250W Champion.

-You might have heard of this speedy Aussie. If you haven’t, just watch one SX broadcast on Peacock. After three hours, they’ll have you believing he’s landed on the moon and walks on water. It’s Jett’s World. We’re just living in it.

-These two crazy kids seem to get together more often than peanut butter and jelly. I heard DeanO visited the MotoConcepts hauler Arenacross style after the A1 main. I fully approve. Can we get this on PPV?

-The mystery man. Do we ever know what to expect from Jason? I’ll say no. After an 8 win 22SX season, 2023 was a rough one. But the 21 is now working with the Troll and comes into 24SX with guns a blazin and a second at A1.

-Huntah f**king Lawrence. I almost have no words. I would have bet the farm on him simply making the A1 main. Thankfully, I don’t own a farm.

-Nate could have won A1 or crashed out. I don’t think anyone would have been surprised by either. A younger version of Jordon Smith until he proves otherwise.

-Love seeing double D jumping into the 450 class full time. We saw some great rides on the 450 last summer. He follows that up with an impressive 15th Saturday night. Under the lights. At our Super Bowl. On a ten-year-old Suzuki no less.

-I have to think Phil was almost relieved to miss out on a 15 minute main plus one lap of Deathcross. I’m joking. Phil’s a racer thru n thru. His interview immediately after a mechanical failure on the gate… was one of the most professional moments I’ve seen in years. Well done, Filthy.

Law Dog

-Ed note: No explanation from Law Dog this week, so his picks will remain a mystery. But we love them.

Troy Dog

-After 15 years of wanting the Editor-in-Chief job here at Vurb, I’ve finally accomplished that goal. I start full-time next week and I couldn’t be more excited for this opportunity. This is what Eminem wrote “8 Mile” about. I’ve been listening to “Lose Yourself” all week. This is my moment. In all seriousness, I’m very excited to work with such a rad group of people who feel more like family than anything. I’m ready to help them take Vurb to another level!

-Shoutout to the Vurb doggies for always being there for me and giving me this opportunity. Thanks to Bird, Chili, Chase Stallo for giving me this opportunity. I took this job right out of Slaw Dog’s grasp.

-Jett, you won your first 450SX in your first try…you should go to Disney World and sit out round two.

-Webb was a man on the move before he went over the bars. You can go back to my team previews and see that I never counted him out once. He’ll be a contender for this title until the end, just like I forecasted. Never count out Coop.

-RJ looked cool, calm, collected, and fast. He took control of the main event and let the race come to him. This is his year.

-I feel bad putting Anderson this far down. He finished second at the opener and had a great race and battle with Webb. He looks back on par to his 2022 form.

-AP got fourth at the opener and no one talked about it including myself. What’s that? We need to grab Lil Wayne and Fat Joe to make it rain this weekend? AP is rubbing his hands together.

-Never in my life did I think that I’d have Jason Lawrence yell at me over text message and accuse me of stealing his Power Rankings, but here we are. JLaw has joined us in our weekly ranks and it’s been awesome. Thanks for all the help, Law Dog, you’ve been a Vurb guy since the Goat Kreations days and we’re happy to have you aboard!

-Look man, I’m a onesie guy. I want to try one of these speedsuits so bad. I think the future of moto is with the one piece. It’s an unpopular opinion now, but I’m driving the bandwagon and you can jump on at any time. I wrote a column about it this week as well giving you all the benefits. So, read that and get back to me.

-Dean Wilson and Vince Friese won’t be exchanging Christmas cards until at least 2032 and that’s sad. These two just keep finding one another on the track. DeanO voiced his frustrations with Friese in his newest viral vlog and it gets pretty spicy. Props to riders for being so open.

Ginger Dog

– News broke this week about T-Dogs new gig. He’s the Editor-in-Chief of Vurb now and ended an almost decade long run at his previous job. For me, the decision for him to go full time at Vurb was an easy one. I’ve been with T almost 15 years and I’ve watched him literally crawl his way to where he is now. He had no ties to ANYONE in the industry. He networked, hustled, and did all the things. He has built something really cool for himself and I’m so unbelievably proud. Congratulations my guy. You deserve the world.

-He did what we all knew he would do. Showed up to his first ever 450 SX race and won.

-I thoroughly enjoyed watching Cade hold it down and fend off Hunter Lawrence in the LCQ. The 450class is absolutely stacked this year, so I was excited to see Cade charge into the main. Congratulations on P19!

-I thought Coop rode really well and watching him beat Jett in the second heat was fun. Jett made a mistake on the second to last lap, (yeah, even robots can glitch) so Coop took that dub. He looks good and he’s one I’m excited to watch this season.

-Stew, if my teeth looked like that I’d be smiling that much too. Send me your dentist’s digits please and thank you.

-I don’t know much about Kobusch but he put in some serious work during that 250 LCQ. He passed Max Miller in the last turn before the finish and made the main event. I love when I watch certain dudes race and I can just feel how much they want it. Lance, you’re Ginger approved.

-40 years old and still doing what he loves. I admire the heck out of that. Billy may not have made the main, but he made me a fan. I also enjoyed the picture he shared on IG (courtesy of  @browndogwilson) of him just throwing whips. I know guys out there half his age that can’t even toss them like that.

-I hid in the background and eavesdropped a little while T was in the press conference. It was really cool seeing all the 250 guys together off the track. They are so used to battling it out, but in this setting, it was so obvious they love what they do. It was honestly cute as heck to watch and they just genuinely laughed and enjoyed the moment. The whole thing felt comfy and easy. It honestly seemed like I was just sitting in a room with some dudes shooting the s#!%. Respect is all I felt watching it. The 250 class vibes win by far.

-Karnow, I had no idea feet could even turn like that. Your pain tolerance is seriously impressive. I saw the video and from the outside looking in you looked very chill…then I saw the leg. Absolutely insane. I’m glad you’re okay.

-Guys, I’m back. Are you ready?

  1. I remember watching Kobusch eat it so hard on the finish line jump at a fair race back when he was on 65s. Man, I’m old.
