I woke up today feeling under the weather.
It didn’t really make sense, sure my kids have started school, G-Dog is a teacher, so she’s bringing home germs everyday. Yet, I’m an ELITE athlete and my immune system is built different, so I shouldn’t be feeling like this. I even have been using NXT Hydration to keep me hydrated. Then it occurred to me…
I CAUGHT MOOKIE FEVER.
Malcolm Stewart’s 6-5 scores at Budds Creek put him at fourth overall on the day. It was Mookie’s best finish of the season indoors and out. In fact it was his best outdoor finish in over 11 years…mostly due to the fact that he hasn’t raced them…but still.
I can imagine that it’s been a long season for Stewart, who wasn’t the same rider that he was in Monster Energy Supercross as he was a year and a half ago. But, then again you. have to put in perspective that he had a strong rebuilding season after a pretty serious knee injury that kept him out of the Pro Motocross Championship last summer.
Stewart had to travel to Colorado to get his knee fixed in the offseason and he went into comeback mode. The results on paper this year have been pretty solid. If you take out the first five rounds of this year’s SX season, Stewart has finished inside of the top ten in 22 of the 24 rounds.
Sure, it wasn’t the podiums or the flashes of speed that you’re used to, but considering the circumstances and injury comeback, it’s been a nice rebuild.
In fact, the fourth overall at Budds Creek is his best Pro Motocross finish since June 22, 2013 when he went 9-3 in the 450 Class. Guess where that finish occurred…yeah, Budds Creek. He finished third behind Ryan Dungey and Ryan Villopoto in that second moto as well. It’s crazy to think that Mookie has been in the 450 Class that long. Of course, he did drop back down in 250SX and even won the East Region Championship in 2016.
With this successful rebuild in play, Mookie now looks forward to ending the season on a high note at Ironman, making a lot of money in the SuperMotocross Playoffs (he’s currently 7th in the standings), and coming in strong for the 2025 season.
Stewart is currently signed with the Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Team through the 2025 season, so no changes will be happening there. He has plenty of time to get back to his podium speed and as you can see with his finishes at Budds, he’s well on his way to that.
