Matt Moss to Return to Racing in the U.S. with BarX Suzuki

Matt Moss is returning to racing in the U.S.

The BarX Suzuki team announced today that it has signed the Australian for the remainder of the 250SX West Region. Moss will make his debut at the rescheduled Oakland round next Saturday, Feb. 18. 

“BarX Suzuki would like to give a warm welcome to our newest rider Matt Moss,” the team wrote. “He has come all the way from Australia to join our team for the remainder of the Supercross season.”

Moss’ last race in the U.S. was February 8, 2014, when he finished 22nd in San Diego in the 450 Class. He does have one career SX podium, which he achieved at San Diego in 2012 with a third place finish in 250SX. 

Moss achieved a career resurgence in 2022. In 2017, Motorcycling Australia, Australia’s sports-governing body, banned Moss for four years after testing positive for Ostarine, a SARM (Selective Androgen Receptor Modulator) that mimics the effects of anabolic steroids, in a test administered on May 22, 2016 in Murray Bridge, South Australia.

Moss was signed to race the FIM World Supercross Championship with Bud Racing Kawasaki to compete in MX2. He finished 10-8 at the two rounds in 2022. 

Then he caught fire. He won Price of Paris (SX2) at Paris Supercross and then rode for BBR 102 Motorsports in the Australian Supercross Championship and lost out on the title by a single point in SX1. Justin Brayton would capture the title over Moss. 

The team also announced that Brandon Scharer will finish the remainder of the West Region with the team. He was a late fill-in for the injured Derek Drake at the last West round at Anaheim 2, where he finished 19th overall. 

The new duo joins Robbie Wageman. Ty Masterpool and the team have reportedly parted ways. Drake sustained a fracture to his left humeral head/neck in his shoulder in San Diego. He’s out for the time being.
