Muc-Off/FXR/ClubMX rookie Mark Fineis has been off to a great start and has caught the eye of many as one of the top rookies in the 250 class so far. Even thought Mark had somewhat of a rough weekend at Thunder Valley.

“I’m not quite used to that speed yet, but I’m getting there,” said Fineis in a post race interview with The Motocross Network.

Fineis has shown some tremendous race speed with the little he has raced coming into this outdoor season. Except a few Supercross Futures rounds, we have not seen him racing since Ironman last year where he was still on a GasGas. After that round, Fineis went somewhat quiet and put in the work out in South Carolina with his new team.

Fineis seems to be transitioning well to the blue bike and currently sits 17th in points and fourth in points among the rookies. He is also ClubMX’s top 250 rider by points at the moment. Mark has been able to keep a steady season going, with a 12th, 17th, and a 19th overall. It seemed like it was going to be his best weekend at Thunder Valley running in the top 10 in Moto 2, but some mistakes would cost him a few spots.

“All I had to do was bring it home, but I just threw it away man. I’ve gotta learn how to manage,” Fineis said.

While some might think Mark is having an above expectation season thus far, Fineis is still not super happy with his results and wants more. He went on to say that he feels more comfortable on the bike than what he thought he would, but his expectations for himself are higher than what his results show.

“My expectations for myself are higher than what I’m finishing,” Fineis said. “I want to be in the top teen consistently. I know I can be there with a good start, I just haven’t got that start yet.”

With Fineis getting a little taste of what the speeds are of the top guys, will we see him in the top ten? If so, how long before he gets a top ten finish? Even with the results trending the wrong direction I think each race he has gotten better. Just little mistakes are hurting the results. Like he said, if he can get a good start and not have to fight through the pack, it would make things a little easier on himself. I think Fineis will be one of the guys to watch at RedBud. This is a race really close to home for Mark and a track I think that will fit him well. Only time will tell.
