Welcome to the Vurbmoto Roundtable! It’s a feature we had in the early days and now it’s such a legend that it makes a return. Our panel of experts, Bird and T-Dog, give their best opinion on hot topics in the sport. We also let Slaw give his opinion, but no one cares what he has to say. Let’s get to it!
Editor’s Note: I let Bird Dog take a much needed vacation with the family this week, but he will be back next week!
What’s eating Dax Bennick and how do we turn this ship around?
Troy Dog: The start to the outdoor season has been rough for Dax, but I honestly think that he just needs to get on a 450. He’s proven to be a top ten guy in the 250 class in the past, but maybe he needs a spark and a move to the 450 class could provide that? I know that sounds kind of crazy when he hasn’t even raced a full season of outdoors yet in his career. He’s gone 17-17-12-17-21 to start the season and if he keeps trending that way it might not be a bad idea to finish the season out in the premier class. He’s built for a 450 and he can get better starts on it with his size. Star has a few 450s laying around the shop I’m sure.
Slaw Dog: Gilbert Grape? I have zero concerns about Dax. He’s a rookie. This stuff happens. Let’s all simmer down a bit, eh? Has the season gone well so far? No, no it hasn’t. Is he going to be fine down the line? Yes, yes he is.
Lead Slaw Lock of the Week: Dax will win a SX race OR two next year. Bookmark this.
Can Ty Masterpool keep the momentum going and end up in the top three in points by season’s end?
Troy Dog: Remember back in 2006 when Broc Hepler came back from injury and won a bunch of nationals to finish out the season? No? Just me…cool I’m old then…I say that Masterpool goes on a run here and he will continue to get better. RedBud is going to be a great day for him. He’s got some ground to make up in the points, but with consistency it won’t take long to get fourth in points, which is where I have him finishing. It’s not top three, but it’s darn close!
Slaw Dog: That’s going to be a tall order. He’s currently sixth in points and 37 behind Tom Vialle in third. Oh, and he has Jo Shimoda and Levi Kitchen between him and Vialle. Is there a chance? Sure. Will it happen? I’ll go with no.
An East Coast swing is coming up, who is going to benefit the most from the off weekend?
Troy Dog: AP BABY! We love the crowds and we know the tracks well. AP just had another weekend off to get stronger as well. We all know he entered the season coming off of an injury as well. He’s going to knock out some more podiums and get closer to the Lawrence bros and Sexton speed, you just watch.
Slaw Dog: Vialle. He really, really, really has to win Southwick, where is probably the favorite, if he wants any chance at this title.
