I can’t say for certain, but I’m almost positive Shane McElrath has ridden for 75 teams on 75 different bikes in the last few years. And he will add a new one this off-season, as he has signed to the powerful Honda Racing team for the 2024 Australian Supercross Championship.
McElrath will compete on the Polyflor-backed Honda squad, which runs the Fire Power Honda team in the US, in the 250 Class for the five round championship which kicks off this weekend with a double-header Saturday and Sunday.
After beginning the season with HEP Suzuki, McElrath moved over to the privateer MaddParts.com/Kawasaki team to finish out the Pro Motocross and SuperMotocross Playoffs. While not official, it is expected McElrath will compete in the FIM World Supercross Championship with the team as well.
The team also announced the signing of Cole Thompson, who finished third in the SX2 Championship in 2023 behind Max Anstie and Nathan Crawford.
“Since 2019 we’ve dominated the 250 championships in both motocross and supercross, but keeping that streak alive is no easy task with the level of talent across all teams,” said Honda Racing team director Yarrive Konsky.
“This year, we’ve made significant investments to showcase Honda’s winning range of motocross bikes. I’m incredibly grateful to our sponsors – without their support, none of this would be possible.”
