ED NOTE: Troy sucks so Slaw had to take over his column this week. Enjoy.
Ah…. The great outdoors. Sun, booze, and dirtbikes. What a great summer it shall be… unless Jett Lawrence makes it boring, which is likely to happen. With the opening of the Pro Motocross Championship approaching this Saturday, what better time than now to throw out MY bold predictions for the summer.
I shall not bore you with more words that just fill up half a page and will instead jump right into my 5 bold predictions for the summer.
Jett Goes Undefeated… Again
There is no way this actually happens is there? While I do think it’s unlikely (more below), there is a world where I DO see Jett doing it again. Why not? He was a rookie last year and crushed the field. Eli Tomac is out, again. Chase Sexton, to me, isn’t as strong as he was last year. Dylan Ferrandis is a year older and no longer on factory equipment. Hunter Lawrence is just a rookie. Justin Cooper, to me, isn’t ready yet. See what I’m saying?
Jett Does NOT Go Undefeated
Slaw likes to hedge my bets, so either way, I will be right here. Ricky couldn’t do it (back-to-back). James couldn’t do it. So, why would Jett be able to? No way he goes another year without a crash or mechanical or just straight up getting beat. Sexton is not injured like he was last year. Ferrandis is a former champion. Hunter and Cooper are there. This won’t happen!
Or it will… Either way, I am right.
Joey Savatgy Wins a Race
People are sleeping on Joe Dog outdoors. Heck, I bet most fans don’t even know he’s racing a 250 this summer. While the rest of the 250 Class has been griding it out in DeathCross, as Phil would say, Joey has been nose to the grindstone putting in laps on that new Triumph. He has the experience. He has the speed. Why not?
Vialle Wins the 250 Title
We all saw what Vialle could do in Supercross with VERY little experience. Now we’re going to see him where he really shines. In his rookie campaign last year, the two-time MX2 World Champion spent much of the time getting accustomed to the tracks and the dirt and the different racing styles. Not this year. He’s well equipped to handle all that and WILL win his first U.S. motocross title this year. Heard it here first.
Ty Masterpool Podiums Three Times
He was so, so good last year with very little time on a new team and bike. This year, he’s coming in fully prepared. Ty has always had the talent, but injuries and circumstances have certainly played a part in his early career. With a good team behind him, this will be his year outdoors. Three podiums… Stamp it!
