I’m not hear to destroy the guy as all of you people have been doing all week, but AJ Catanzaro got me thinking with his now infamous Instagram post.
For those of you that have real busy lives and don’t know what I’m talking about, the original clip has been deleted, but AJ Cat came back to add more context…?
First off, I’m confused. I have no idea what in the world is trying to be accomplished here. Are we going to make a five year plan, get the bike, and go for it? Did Hunter Lawrence really say this? Was he saying it as a joke?
You’re telling me if I were to acquire a bike from Honda HRC, or Monster Energy Kawasaki, or Star Racing Yamaha that I could win Loretta Lynn’s in the 30+ class in five years?
First of all, this is a horrible setup because I’ll be 39 in five years and very old for the 30+ class and obviously not old enough for the 40+ class, but let’s just do this, okay? I’LL BE AMA 39.
AJ Cat said that Lawrence said if I had the bike, then I could win anything I wanted, right? That’s what we’re getting from this? So, I can put in five years of work and be better than Brandon Haas, who just won the 30+ title at the Ranch?
To be fair I get what he’s saying. Kind of…I need to make my goals high so that I can achieve them, but c’mon man…I have no business beating a guy with the experience and speed of Haas or anyone else in the top ten of that class. I could maybe make it to the actual event, but the odds of me doing well are slim to none, considering I’ve never ridden on a track as difficult as Loretta’s, or near as hot. the roughest track I’ve ever ridden was a blown out RedBud amateur track on the pro weekend. I did beat Nick Desiderio and I crashed once and still got fourth in 450 B, btw.
Experience makes up for a lot and I don’t think anyone could make up the difference in five years time.
I get worked after cutting my grass for two hours in humidity, let alone racing in all that gear in 1,000 degree weather. Some of us just aren’t built for that life AJ and that’s okay. We have a million other variables going into this then just me getting a fast bike. How am I supposed to start from basically scratch, to be a champion within five years against guys who have been riding for 30+ years?
I don’t have that experience. I stopped riding weekly when I was 22 and then haven’t ridden a bike but a few times since then. It simply wouldn’t be enough.
I thank you for the amazing content piece that got everyone commenting and mad at you. It’s been a long couple of weeks since we’ve had racing to cover and you dropped this clip at the perfect time. I can kind of understand whaat you’re saying, but I’m just telling you that if I put in five years of nothing but riding on a factory bike I still couldn’t win a championship at Loretta’s. Not even if I trained all day at a facility. We have too many other factors at play here.
On top of it. That’s a lot of time, money, and effort that I don’t want to do, so count me out. You racers are gnarly and although I’m an ELITE athlete, I can’t commit to something like this.
Unless y’all get me that factory bike first…
