T-Dog’s Takes: Could Josh Hansen Make a Main Event?

Troy Dog joined the bLU cRU and you should too! Have you seen the new 2024 models with the special livery? Go look right now! It’s amazing. Yamaha also supports T-Dog Squad ELITE Athlete Marshal Weltin. Purchase a Yamaha today and shred like him, Eli Tomac, Cooper Webb, Haiden Deegan, plus more!

Could Josh Hansen still qualify for a 450 Supercross Main Event?

I posed this question in a weeklong poll on X and the results kind of shocked me a bit.

What shocked me is that this was so close…

How do 47.4% of you think that he couldn’t? Have you seen his flow?

I believe that he could qualify no problem. Now, maybe I’m out to lunch on this…but I have some insight on this.

Hunter Yoder, my very good friend and Troy Dog Squad athlete, used to ride with Hansen a lot before he had to move to South of the Border with his Partzilla PRMX ride. Yoder used to tell me the things that Hansen would do on a practice day. It was quite impressive. Hansen would get the rhythm sections down in the first or second lap and just put down lap after lap after that.

I get that putting in picture perfect laps at the practice track and racing are totally different. However, after hearing stories like that from Yoder, it makes me not want to bet against Hanny.

However, Hanny’s mind would have to be into this. If he wants to make the main event/believes that he can, then he will. Hansen very well could be one of the most skilled SX racers that has ever thrown a leg over a bike. He’s forgotten more about SX than most of the privateers lining up on the gate today have ever even known.

The last time that we saw Hansen in Monster Energy Supercross was in 2017 250SX West Region. He had three top ten finishes.

The last time we saw him in a 450SX Main Event was at Santa Clara in 2016 where he finished 16th. Hansen does have two fifth place 450SX finishes and he actually accomplished those on back to back weekends at San Diego and Arlington in 2012. I found that really interesting when looking back on his results.

I realize that this conversation completely comes out of left field. Hansen has not talked about returning to race. This was just me watching his latest Instabanger and posing a question. Maybe it’s wishful thinking? Anyway, I enjoy when guys come back to race a race or two, I realize that it’s a lot of time and money invested, but I’m selfish. Look at what 40-year-old Billy Laninovich accomplished this year!

I say that if Hansen were to line up and try to qualify for a 450SX Main Event that he would be able to. Maybe not the highly anticipated Anaheim 1, but perhaps another California round. Who else is with me?
