Notice that this column now has a sponsor? That’s right! Troy Dog joined the Blu Cru and you should too! I have one in my garage right now and I can’t wait to go shred it this summer! Thank you to Yamaha for believing in my ELITE columns on this dirtbike website enough to sponsor me. What a dream come true!
Can I get a REDBUUUUUD!!
Y’all, it’s Ginger Dog here giving you an inside look at my weekend as a day one journalist at the most magical place on earth. Screw Disney, we are talking about RedBud. I swear if heaven had a smell it would be a a KX450 completely pinned on this track blowing race gas fumes right in my face.
In all seriousness, this place oozes the essence of America. It was my first outdoor national being able to walk the pits as media. I was super official and even had a press pass…. that Trey Canard signed! We’ll get to that later.
Troy Dog started off the weekend (TO NO SURPRISE) two hours behind schedule. Pulling in with our camper he almost took out none other than #874 Zack Williams’ set up. To the dude that helped us make that turn to not smash that tent, thank you! We laid low Friday night with a curfew of 11:30 p.m. so I didn’t get to fully destroy myself at lot B as planned. This was probably a blessing in disguise.
We got hooked up with our credentials by 7 a.m., watched practice, met up with the squad, and then posted up in the media tent. The day was a blur of total braaaapage and hanging out with fans. I spent part of 250 moto 2 passing out some Vurb merch to fans, who as usual, do the most. We got it all on film THANKS TO ME! We can’t trust Troy Dog with that job or else the footage would get stuck in The Upside Down. To the guy that shotgunned my Monster and the bro who attempted to start the wave with me at the leap, mad respect. Merch well earned.
450 moto 2 had the start of all starts. The squad’s own Grant Harlan showed up hungry. The only thing that would have made him pulling third off the drop any better is if he did it in his cut off American flag shirt. The Flyin Hawaiian absolutely delivered. He busted his header pipe colliding with Chris Canning, but he will be back for Millville (we’re sitting Southwick out).
At the end of it all Jo Shimoda ended up taking the W in 250 for the first time and my heart was super happy for the kid. He blasted that “I LOVE USA” across his stomach and gave an epic REDBUUUD. I love his vibe and his win was well deserved. The day was crazy and I think I was sweating in places I didn’t even know I had, but it was well worth it. I ended the day sippin teas with Dustin Pipes, Marshal Weltin, Jaxson Canard (happy birthday my guy), Wes Williams, Jeff Simpson, and a bunch of other super cool people.
The post show with Weege was one of my highlights. He’s on his A game non stop and is a true gift to the industry. With that said, I still think of couponed Wendy’s chicken nuggets whenever I see his face. Weege is squad material. I got to got to talk to Trey Canard, Jett Lawrence, and Troy Dog took a plunge in the nastiest water I have ever seen and I was in full support. He still hasn’t shown any signs of infection so that’s good. CEO goes hard over here. It’s a lifestyle and I’m here for it. Lastly, I want to give the biggest shout out to Kirk Dog (Kirk Newman). The weekend would not have been possible without him. Dude is IT.
I love RedBud
I love Vurb.
I love this sport.
Ginger Dog OUT!
