I was right.
Man, IT FEELS AWESOME TO SAY THAT!!!
I’m not right about much, just ask my wonderful wife Ginger Dog, but I was absolutely correct on this entire column that I wrote about Hunter Lawrence in May.
Look, I understand that this take wasn’t a long shot. Lawrence won both indoor and outdoor titles in 2023 fulfilling somewhat of a prophecy since he first signed with GEICO Honda at the end of 2017.
However since this column hit I’ve never backed down on Hunter being the only rider besides Chase Sexton to have a chance at beating Jett in the 450 class for years to come. I double downed on this on the Squad Pod Pro Motocross Preview Show with Chase Stallo. Hunter is the man for the job and I think a lot of people downplayed how good he would be.
Entering the season, where did you think he’d fit in? As a 5-10 guy who might get a podium here and there? Well, I didn’t.
‘…he’s actually going to progress to be a weekly podium guy/race winner in the 450 class. I think he will win 450 championships along the way as well.‘ I wrote in the column.
Then when Chase Stallo said in the Pro Motocross Preview Show that Hunter might win. I said that Hunter would be an immediate threat to podiums and race wins. What else did I say? Oh yeah, that he would eventually be the guy to push his brother for titles…
…and HERE WE ARE!
Hunter and I have had the red plate now for two rounds and WE won a Moto at Thunder Valley. Not only that, but we’ve been in the mix since the start of the season. WE’ve gone 2-2-2-3 in the first four rounds!
The building blocks have all been built and the structure that Hunter has created was finished ahead of schedule for most…but not me!
So, now as we move towards the future here I feel like it’s my duty to create a Hunter Lawrence Fan Club. Is that okay, Mirtz? I’m not going to profit from it. We’re just here to watch the man build. Now we just need a really catchy name. What does Taylor Swift’s fans call themselves? Hold on let me call Benny Bloss and Christian Craig, as they are in that group.
Swifties. They call themselves Swifties.
Why don’t we call ourselves the Hunties? Does that work for all of us? Honestly, I think it’s an incredible name. Why am I asking any of you? I’m the president and only member of the Hunties at the moment. None of y’all believed in H-Law.
