I gave myself a tough job this week. I made myself pick the 250 rider who will be the most improved rider of the year. However, I feel like that term is too broad. How much of an improvement are we talking? Should I just throw a dart onto a three digit guy and say he’s going to get a two digit number next year?
No, I have picked out my guy for 2025 who is going to prove the most people wrong. I’m not talking about the Julien Beaumer or the Ryder DiFrancescos, or even the Jett Reynolds of the class. These guys will keep progressing nicely should they stay injury free.
I’m going for the next tiered guy…so did I build this up enough for you yet? Should I announce MY guy?
The rider who will prove the most people wrong and be strong week in and week out in 2025 will be…break out the SX Intro God voice…
From Bayside, NY, riding for Phoenix Honda, number 39…NICK ROMANO!
*Fireworks*
My guy Nick is freshly signed to Phoenix Honda after being let go by Monster Energy Star Racing Yamaha. To be honest his term with the blU crU ended nicely. The team supported him for a handful of years with both amateur and pro bikes and even stuck with him while he missed the entire 2023 season with an injury.
Romano returned in 2024 and put in some pretty consistent finishes, mostly in the 10-15 range. He did get a career best 6th overall in the Indianapolis Triple Crown, which was a win in itself after being out so long. For Nick to come back and finish 16th in 250MX and 13th overall in 250SX East and SMX is quite impressive. He’s going to be fighting for a lot more in 2025.
Romano is currently training with Levi Kitchen and some guy named Ken Roczen…so this dude is ready to eat.
If I were a team I would empty out the bank and throw all my money at Romano to become a longtime superstar in this sport. Don’t be surprised when he goes crazy out there. By the end of 2025 all of the 250 factory teams are going to be after this guy. You heard it here first. I’m all in on Nick Romano.
