The Cowboy Rides On “I’m not hurt bad – I’m just really sore”

What a difference a year makes.

Last season, Red Bull KTM’s Aaron Plessinger won his first career 450SX main event in San Diego and left with the points lead. On Saturday, at round two of the Monster Energy Supercross Championship in SD, he wasn’t able to finish the main event and left with a DNF.

It has been a tough start to 2025 for AP. He rode to a quiet ninth at the season opener at Anaheim 1 and then got caught up in his teammate, Chase Sexton’s, crash early in the 450 main event in San Diego. Later in the main, he crashed again and was forced to pull out of the race.

In KTM’s post-race press release, Plessinger said he’s not “hurt bad” and that he is just “really sore.”

“San Diego was an interesting one,” he said. “I didn’t really feel comfortable early on, so we made some changes and they felt really good during the Heat race. I actually felt good and I was able to push and have some really good lap-times, so I went into the Main optimistic and got a decent start, but unfortunately, I got wrapped up with Chase. I got up and tried to charge through the pack, but then I crashed on the triple-quad section – before I knew it, I was on the ground. I’m not hurt bad – I’m just really sore – but I didn’t feel like my head was in the right space and I decided to call it a night. It’s been a tough start to the season, but we’ve got 15 more rounds and I can definitely bounce back next weekend.”

Through two rounds, AP sits 15th in points.
